Catskill Film Studio Up for Auction at a Reduced Price

A major film production facility in downtown Catskill is hitting the auction block, with its owners hoping that a significantly lowered price will attract buyers.

The Lumberyard, a 20,000-square-foot soundstage along Catskill Creek, is being auctioned by Paramount Realty USA with a reserve price of $6.35 million—far less than its original $11.5 million asking price. Along with the soundstage, three additional buildings are included in the sale.

According to Alex Smith of Open Impact Real Estate, the non-profit owners have decided to shift their focus toward live theater and performing arts, particularly in the New York City area. “The organization wants to concentrate on its work in NYC rather than maintaining a film production space in Catskill,” Smith explained.

Completed in 2018, the facility has hosted some film productions over the years. Now, with the auction set for Thursday, the owners hope to reinvest the proceeds into their core mission in the performing arts sector.
